So Sad.

We have entered a new era as a family: this was the first year I went to bed on Christmas Eve without putting out a plate of cookies for Santa. Not once did we sign on to check NORAD to track Santa.

All my believers (well, the girls, anyway) have turned into Beliebers.

Didn't stop me completely, though. I still filled stockings. I still wrote "from Santa" on their main gifts. Old habits die hard.

And any sadness dissipated this morning. Children drunk with anticipation waking us up before daybreak, jubilant children rushing to the couch to see what had come in the night. Looks of disbelief mingled with joy as stockings were dissected, wrappings torn asunder. Then the quiet peace that settled over the house as new clothes and playthings were examined and tried, shared and played.

I think I'll follow Cindy Lou's lead and go take a nap.....

Merry Christmas Anne! I was just thinking this morning how lucky I am that my girls still believe - it really adds a fun layer to my morning. My eight year old is only still a believer because she desperately wants to be - so it was such a treat to watch her read the note from Santa left with the cookie plate this morning.

It's a bit hard and a little sad when our children go beyond those starry-eyed, full of excitement & anticipation. But......they may eventually give you grandchildren & you get to enjoy the starry-eyed, full of excitement & anticipation again.....lol!
Sounds like you had a great Christmas!

I know, Sarah and Cass, I know (sniff). They still get crazy excited over Christmas, so they're not SO grown up yet. And actually, truth be told, the only reason we don't still have one of our believers is that I had to break down and tell my saweet special-needs girl after Christmas last year. I knew she would be 14 this Christmas, and I just couldn't see letting it go on any longer than it had. But it broke my heart to tell her. Bwah!

LOL "Beliebers" - too funny! I imagine that is a sad time, when the cookies, and the excitement of Santa is passed... since they realized Santa is... pretty much, you! :) I enjoyed the pics, looks like you still had a lot of fun :)

Yes, it was indeed sad, but have fun we did. Christmas morning was actually just as exciting and fun as ever. In a few years, maybe not, but for now we're still good....
